NEW MODULAR HOMEBUILDER OPENS ITS DOOR IN OKOTOKS On October 15 McGaffey Modular Manufacturing opened for business in the industry park at FISHER CRESCENT in OKOTOKS. The company offers a unique mix of residential and commercial contracting. Most unusually, McGaffey Modular Manufacturing offers their customers a completion date guarantee. Many builders are spending time apologizing to their clients for being late in the completion of their homes. However, McGaffey offers a guarantee and will pay for the move if a clients home is not ready within 60 days from the start of construction. Owner Pat McGaffey explained that McGaffey Modular Manufacturing is a type of hybrid which combines the journeyman tradespeople with production in one location. By having skilled tradespeople work in one location they are able to work on a tighter schedule. Everything needed to complete the home is also available in one location. For example, the wood is available right at the shop so the lumber workers don't have to waste time picking up lumber from elsewhere. Workers at McGaffey Modular Manufacturing are also efficient. For example, framing crews arrive in the morning and work until the job is completed. McGaffey also employs a draftsman/designer who works with each customer to produce a custom design unique to that customer's preference. Building custom homes and guaranteeing delivery is not exactly the cheapest way to go, but McGaffey assures its clients that the pricing is never more than a few cents per square feet more than the competition. Owner Pat McGaffey started in the manufacturing business as a carpenter 24 years ago in the family business in Ontario. In 1989 he followed the economy west to Alberta where he operated C.T.S. Management, a general contracting business, which focused mainly on commercial and acreage building. Ten years later Pat expanded that business to FRONTIER HOMES, a midrange subdivision builder. There he realized that modular home production was an additional lucrative market and opened McGaffey Modular Manufacturing.
